Door Configurators With Real-Time 3D and Instant Quotes

Doors and windows are made to measure, priced by the millimetre, and specified by people who can't see the result until it's installed. A 3D door configurator guides buyers through every choice, shows the door as it will be built, and hands you a complete, priced specification.

01The Problem

Custom doors don't fit on a price list

A single door range can come in pivot, hinged, sliding and arched variants, in any width and height, with several glass types and frame finishes, left or right handing, and a choice of hardware. Multiply that across a few series and the configurations run into the thousands. Some of them aren't valid at all: that handle doesn't fit that profile, and that glass isn't offered in that series.

So most manufacturers fall back on the showroom and the quote form. A homeowner, builder or architect browses samples, describes what they want, and waits days for a price. Every enquiry starts with a scoping conversation, quotes get revised, and anyone outside showroom hours or driving distance simply goes elsewhere, often to the national brand with the bigger catalogue.

A door configurator turns that into a guided flow. Each step shows only the options that are still valid, the 3D door updates as choices are made (the glass looks like glass, the finish catches the light, the dimensions scale exactly) and the price recalculates with every change. What arrives in your inbox is a quote request with the full spec and a price the customer has already seen.

02Your Options

Your options for a door configurator

Door and window manufacturers usually weigh three approaches. The right one depends on how deep your range is and how complex your pricing rules are.

01

Spec sheets and a quote form

PDF brochures, a sample showroom, and a form that captures what the buyer thinks they want.

Best for
Very narrow ranges, or trade-only sales where every job is surveyed anyway.
Trade-off
No validation and no price on the page. Sales spends the first call establishing the spec, and invalid combinations surface at quote stage.

02

A 2D builder or SaaS platform

Flat elevation builders, or hosted 3D platforms with generic option rules.

Best for
Fixed-size products with simple, additive pricing.
Trade-off
Cross-step dependencies, dimension-based pricing and convincing glass are exactly where generic tools run out, and the licence never ends.

03

A custom guided configurator

A step-by-step wizard with your series, rules and pricing engine in code, rendered with React Three Fiber.

Best for
Deep ranges, option dependencies, millimetre sizing and pricing that varies by series.
Trade-off
The biggest build of the three: the door configurator below was Enterprise scope. A $2,500 Pilot on one series proves it first.

03Integrations

From configured door to signed order

A door configurator earns its keep in what happens after the last step.

Pricing engine

Base price per series, dimensional scaling, and surcharges for glass, finish and hardware, validated server-side so the quoted price can't drift from what the customer saw.

Option dependency rules

Which glass each series supports, which hardware fits which door type, and size limits per profile, encoded once and shared by the wizard and the backend.

Quote management

Quote requests stored with the exact configuration and price, emailed to sales, and kept somewhere you control.

Your website or store

Linked from your site, embedded in a page, or added to a WooCommerce or Shopify cart for products you sell outright.

CRM and order handoff

Specs posted to your CRM, or exported in a format your ordering system can import instead of being re-keyed from an email.

Admin for products and prices

Add a series, change a surcharge or retire a finish without a developer. That's part of our Enterprise scope.

Premium Slimline Door Manufacturer · AU

A premium Australian manufacturer of slimline glass doors (pivot, hinged, arched and sliding, across nine series) needed to sell a fully made-to-order range beyond their showrooms. Every door is built to the customer's dimensions, with a choice of glass, aluminium finish, hardware and handing.

We built a 7-step guided wizard (location, style, handing, colour, size, hardware, glass) with a React Three Fiber 3D preview that updates at every step. Clear, reeded, frosted and tinted glass are rendered with real transmission and roughness, frames scale parametrically to the entered size, and handles swap with the style and handing. A pricing engine recalculates on every change, and the final step submits a quote request carrying the full specification and the price shown.

Behind it sits an Express backend for products, options, pricing rules and quotes, so the pricing engine and dependency logic can evolve without touching the customer-facing UI. The project took about three months and fell in our Enterprise tier, driven by the pricing engine and the cross-step dependencies across nine series.

05FAQ

Door configurator FAQ

How much does a door configurator cost?
It depends on the depth of your range and your pricing rules. One door series with finish and glass options and live pricing fits our $2,500 Pilot. A standalone guided wizard with live pricing typically falls in Professional ($14,000). A full system with a pricing engine across many series, option dependencies and quote management is Enterprise ($24,000).
How long does it take to build a door configurator?
A single-series Pilot is live in about two weeks. A focused guided configurator for one or two series usually takes 4–8 weeks; a multi-series system with a pricing engine and quote backend takes longer: the nine-series slimline door project above took about three months.
Can it handle custom sizes and option dependencies?
Yes, and that's the core of a door configurator. Width and height can be entered to the millimetre within each profile's limits, the 3D model scales parametrically, and each step filters out options that aren't valid for the series, type or size already chosen. A customer can't submit a door you can't build.
Does it work for windows as well as doors?
Yes. Windows share the same structure (profiles, glazing, finishes, hardware, sizes) and the same need for dependency rules and dimension-based pricing. The same architecture covers windows, screens, shower enclosures and other glazed products.
Does a door configurator replace our showroom or sales team?
No, it extends them. The configurator handles exploration and specification at any hour, then hands sales a fully specified, priced lead, so the conversation starts at installation and lead times rather than at "what did you have in mind?"
